    Include Clothing?

Are clothes included in base pack weight? My understanding is that it's everything but food, water and fuel. But, my clothing varies with every hike even in the same season. Just asking. If not, then I finally got my 3 season base weight below ten pounds! If so, I can easily shoot for 15!

base weight is everything that does not get used up-food/fuel/water/tp, so yes rain gear, insulation, extra socks will count in the base; and it will vary by how much you need and how much you can stand to wear over and over...
    just a thought. KM

You're right - everything that's not consumable is included in base pack weight. That's why people post their 3-season-base and winter-base weights...b/c clothing and TQ/UQ change.

I usually separate my luxuries as well...journal, camera, etc. You can see a couple of my lists here if you're interested.

I have often wondered about the various "weights"! seems to me, anything you carry that is fixed, is wgt, call it skin out weight, plus only consumables. If it ends up you are toting it , count it !!@$^ gnome
