    Differential Double layered hammock?

Some of the threads here just had me wondering about if the second layer of a double hammock bottom had a differential cut? Then you can add some layers like a down jacket/vest, IX, etc... without it becoming compressed and allow the loft to provide extra warmth? Wonder if that has been thought of yet? (Im sure)

I just thought about this the other night as well. This way I could use open cell foam pad instead of ccf for my underinsulation without needing some other way to suspend it. I may give it a try modding my diy double layer.

I tried it once. The hardest part is figuring out how much length to add to the second layer.

I used some 1.9 ripstop for the bed layer and 1.1 ripstop for the outer layer. I added about 2" to the width and 4" to the length of the outer layer. It was close, and would work fine for a CCF pad, but when I put some Climashield in there it felt a little compressed. You just can't predict how much the bed fabric is going to stretch.

I decided that it would be easier to make a separate undercover. That way you could adjust the length so it doesn't compress your insulation. Never got back to that idea, maybe next fall.

I prefer to use an adjustable (and removable) net.

It's lightweight and much easier to attach things to (i.e., fix the insulation to the net, then adjust the whole net as necessary).
