    3 Season UQ Options

I'm looking for a UQ for a WBBB that would be used 3 season with temps ranging from 15*- 40* at night.

I prefer a down fill due to compressibility and would like something made in the states, what does that narrow it down to?

    Thank!

JRB, Speer, Warbonnet, Perfect Trees, Te-Wa...all make down-filled 3-season quilts in the US.

None of the 3 season quilts are going to get you to 15 degrees in my opinion unless you A.) supplement it with a pad or... B.) you are a very warm sleeper. Having several cold weather hangs under my belt now with my 3 season Yeti I can pretty much say that for me the cut-off on the 3 season yeti without the reflective liner is 25 to 30 degrees. Any colder and I need to add a piece of CCF pad or some reflectix inside the hammock under by butt which I despise due to condensation problems.

Agree with pizza. Most cut-offs are 30F, with a few down to 20F. 15F requires a winter quilt...which most manufacturers offer as well.

But you could get a 3-season model and add a pad for the nights that are below the quilt's rating.

Or get a 3-season and a summer quilt, then double up in the winter. Save you some weight in summer.

    Pizza pretty much nailed it.

If you want to get to 15 degrees with only the UQ, then aim for the winter-weight UQs that are out there. With the lower rating, it would be overkill in warmer temps, but it's relatively easy to make it "inefficient" by sliding it to create a gap at the end so that it's losing much of its insulation value.

+1 on Just Jeffs post. There have been some new developments this past winter with supplementing 3 season quilts with IX material- like MacEntire's sock...

another option might be to have over fill added to a 3 season to make it somewhere between winter and 3 season. i think that's an option for all the brands mentioned above.

i've recently had great success adding only 1/8" of ccf under my butt and back and got a HUGE temp boost from it. some might experience excess moisture buildup on the pad. i had a little but it was minimal and worth the warmth for me personally. i think if you can put one between the layers of a double, the moisture would be less of an issue than it would be otherwise. that's a cheap way to go since the supplemental pad is cheap and can then be left at home in warmer temps when the uq is still within it's comfort range.

the deluxe is the same quilt, but it comes with a removable reflective vapor barrier liner. the verdict is not really in on how much warmth it adds. maybe somebody else can comment on that.
