    keeping quilts dry?

I do all of my traveling and camping by motorcycle, so I'm trying to figure a way to keep my quilts dry while riding in case of storms, deep water crossings, etc. Is it ok to stuff an UQ (KAQ Lost River) and a TQ (Kelty Galactic down bag as a quilt) in the same dry bag? I was thinking about getting a sealline or some similar roll top bag and strapping it to the rear rack in front of tail bag. I'm worried about condensation from the UQ soaking the TQ, leaving me freezing at night most I guess, how do you guys pack everything?

Where its going... Tail bag sits a lot more level when its strapped down, and its straps are long enough to go around another bag.

Yes, you can put them into the same drybag. I use a Blackbishop bag for my hammock, UQ, TQ and JRB hood. No problems.

Check out Jason Klass's page for some drybag testing.

My bike didn't have much room on it but the hammock fit nicely in the saddlebag and the insulation made for a nice backrest strapped behind me and in front of the tail bag as I rode.

Nice bike! Isn't that the new one with the engine mounted backwards, so the injectors are in front, and the exhaust is in the back? IIRC, the tuned exhaust has an engineered loop with expansion chamber...

My 20 yr old XT350 has one motorcycle carb and one lawnmower carb. At least it's got CDI!

As weight isn't an issue here, I always used individual plastic bags to separate things as needed. Multi-purpose too.

Google Aerostitch and Whitehorse Press. They have all kinds of camping related stuff for your bike including dry bags designed to fit motorcycles. While some of their stuff is a little more expensive, you will get an idea of what kind of set up works on your bike and you can make do with waterproof bags you purchase from local outfitters. On the other hand, their stuff is designed to work on a motorcycle- straps in the right place.

Mac - No the WR250R is unrelated to the new WR450F except for the fact that both are made by Yamaha. The motor in mine is more or less 1/4 of an R1 motor, 6spd transmission, nice big 350w alternator, its a pure 50/50 dual sport.

I'm more than familiar with Aerostich, but I try to pack a lot lighter than the BMW/KLR guys. Weight isn't as noticeable as it is backpacking, but the last thing I want to do is deal with an overloaded bike that decided to take a nap in the middle of a hill climb. The lighter the better on trails... BTW plastic bags, even heavy duty ones, really don't last long on a dual sport trip.

I ordered a pair of granite gear drybloc compression sacks along with an Eno bug net with my 20% off + REI dividend, hopefully I can end up putting everything in the tail bag and not have anything additional strapped to the rack. Trying to keep my weight under 30 pounds with tools and spares and have everything nice and compact. The Wolfman Enduro series are great.

Another site to check out... I found the HF site from that one: Motocampers.com forum. Some of the guys there have shown how they pack/camp with their dual purposes like yours... I know that some of the motorcyclists on THIS site also check that one.
