I am new to hammocks and tarps (1 good one of each) but I have used grommets, and I would much rather sew a webbing loop. just a pain to pound just right, and they can cut material. also, webbing usually stays intact and tears the material, allowing it to be hand sewn back on wherever you are. I'm not carrying a hammer and the grommet set and stuff around.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

Back in my ground dwelling days....I made a general purpose tarp out of Tyvek and tried grommets in that. I could rip the grommets out even with three layers of Tyvek.

I know what you are thinking...no wind could possibly be as strong as my buldging muscles...but still, I thought it best to go with a different method. (Ended up using the pebble with a loop tied around it)

What type of grommets did you use?

    Just regular run-of-the mill grommets.

Run of the mill grommets don't work to good especially in a material that rips super easy...How do you like Tyvek? I personally like the soft structure's breath-ability but hate how easy the stuff tears. I have never had much luck with the stuff but at the end of the day its a really cheap alternative to gore-tex.

Haven't had problems with tears. Is loud if it is not washed. For ground dwelling it makes a cheap footprint.
