    On-the-ground

    Hi,
I realize that most of you Claytor hangers go to places where you can hang. Has anyone ever taken their Claytor somewhere where you HAD to use it on the ground. Hope to do a x-county bicycle trip for my 50th HS reunion and would love to take a Claytor, but certain there will be a few nights hanging potential. Too old and too slow to take both a hammock and tent. Any thoughts, suggestions, tips would be appreciated. Thanks, triker

I have had to take mine to ground a couple of times when canoeing with a group and they chose to camp on an island with no trees. Biggest thing is to have something to prop up rainfly with and attach screening to so it is up and out of your face. Also need foam or something underneath to protect from moisture.

Worked out fine, I used canoe paddles, but I sure was ready to hang after sleeping on the ground.

I've done it several times. With the Claytor, works pretty good. If bugs aren't a problem, probably easier just to set up the tarp by itself.

You could use the bike as a tarp support for one end.
