    I'll have to try that!

The IX symmetrical UQ will have a significant bowl shape from the darts, and will have no facing fabric.

The Molly Mac Gear IX Top Quilt will have no darts, a facing fabric (maybe), and a foot box.

Awesome! I've been waiting for someone to make these. I have no "gear maker" nor the time to make gear. I'm very interested to see how this turns out!

Nice stuff Mac. Especially like the idea of stacking.

Do the balls ship with every order or should you be adding one of those "shown with optional items" disclaimer like car adds?

The Top Quilts will stack as well. It's one of the reasons I am hoping to get away without using a facing fabric.

My wife has very sensitive skin. She wrapped up in some IX last evening and declared it just fine as it is.

What will be prices on them? Will you post a pick of what these will look like? So thse UQ's don't need any fabric on the outside to keep the wind or moisture from getting trhu?

$40 to $50 each, BOGO half price!

Sure will! It will look surprisingly similar to the one for the SS.

Nope. IX is breathable, but it is wind proof and water resistant.

Here's the first item: an Insultex UQ for the Hennessey Supershelter

Yesterday I made an Insultex UQ that works with or replaces (for the summer) the Hennessey Supershelter OCF pad. Thing1 used it last night, and reported that it is significantly warmer than the UQ she has been using. (She has a synthetic comforter with gathered ends.) It was so warm, she tossed off her top quilt!

It has the same fitted, asymmetrical shape as the HH SS OCF pad, achieved with darts. Fit is the key to success with IX! This UQ should be suspended loosely, but right up against the OCF pad or the hammock. There are grosgrain loops at each corner, which will match up with the HH SS OCF pad suspension. You can also use the suspension that comes with it, which is identical. There are loops that match up with the tie-outs. Like the HH SS OCF pad, it has a grosgrain diagonal underneath, so that the tie-outs can not pull it apart. This grograin diagonal is parallel to the IX quliting stitches. The whole UQ is bound with grosgrain. It is not faced with another fabric, so that it can remain ultra light in weight. (I'll add a facing if you insist.) It folds up to about the size of a softball. Like all Molly Mac Gear, it comes with a Tyvek sack.

This IX UQ can be used by itself, or underneath the HH SS OCF pad. When I had a HH SS, I was able to use it at 20*F. With this IX UQ I would have been able to take it much lower. In summer, the IX UQ packs smaller, and will work for temps of 50*F and above.

Weight: 2.8 oz, without suspension, 3.6 oz with suspension
Price: $40 for one, $55 for two (they are nestable), add $15 for a ripstop nylon outer shell

Next, up are two similar IX UQ products. These will be full size. One will be made with the Kelli Wise pattern for a HH Asym UQ. The other will be symmetrical, for any gathered end hammock.

I'm grateful to Gargoyle, who sent me the results of a darting project, just as I was about to dart this UQ. Gargoyle is going to take some of these UQs to the Hoosier Hang, to demonstrate them, then add them to the raffle! I'll do the same at MAHHA.

Hey there Mac. Are these still available? I REALLY like them and any drop in weight and increase in warmth is a total winner with me. By the way I received the IX yesterday and my hope is to turn that into a top quilt. That is if I learn to sew
    Thanks. Kat

This is fantastic! When will the symmetrical shapes be available? I assume it will work well with a Clark and/or Claytor Jungle hammock. Will you also be selling a symmetrical pad or will we have to purchase that separately on our own? If we need to buy the pad separately, what pad would yopu suggest?

    Thanks, Miguel

They are available now! I am making them now. BigBamaGuy has bought the first one. He will test it and report asap.

I know of no reason it won't work with any hammock!

You really don't need to use it with a pad. I would nest two IX UQs instead.
