Does anyone go without bugnet?

I was wondering how many people skip using a bug net? (Besides winter.) I saw on Te-wa's sub-5 pound list that he used a headnet for that trip. Was wondering if there were others who rely on headnet or bug spray or simply don't worry about it throughout the year.

I live in the Gulf Coast. NO WAY!!! Bugnet, don't leave home without them.

I can get away without one in he coldest part of winter (all 2 weeks of it).

I think to go without a bugnet would depend on where you will be camping and what the bugs are like there. I would say better safe than sorry.

I 'misplaced' my bug netting before a trip a couple of years back and seemed to have got along OK without it, but then again my trips have been in the main not in buggy times or places. I've kept a bottle of deet free bug juice in my hammock and just give myself a bit of a dosing if there's some bug activity, snug my quilt up well and wear a hat of some sort.

Luckily I've just recently found my bugnetting (and funnily enough just lost the bug juice) so I'll be taking that along on future trips anyway. For me it's probably better to bring it rather than to risk a bad trip, weights not a big concern for me.

Minnesota. Not a chance. Headnet would protect the head, but if your arms are out of the bag, exposed shoulders, whatever, you'd be doomed. Doomed!

You know how it is, sometimes you need the bugnet, sometimes you don't...yes I know they give some warmth but the price is weight.

I think most hammock hikers crawl into the hammock and in short order are asleep.....how much bugnet do you really need when sleeping?
Your legs are covered with a TQ, the mossies can't bite through the UQ or the ccf pad under your calves/feet.
So why carry the entire entirely covering hammock bugnet?
Just like lightweight grounders learned to carry a 2/3 pad, just like hammockers learned to carry a 2/3s UQ, I predict someday there will be available a 2/3s cone that provides bugnetting to between your chest and belly....no zipper, it just drapes down the chest to the stomach.
Who will make such a beast that should weigh around 3-4 ounces?
TQ/ZQ? I'm in the market.
Think of the weight if you got a 2/3s Bugnet and a Traveler!!!

How about this:

• A bugnet that overlaps your Top Blanket.
• Drapes onto the top blanket a couple of feet down from the head end, so you have room in front of your face.
• Drapes over your head and shoulders inside the hammock, or it could fall outside the hammock.
• Above your head, two or three sliding loops fastened to your ridgeline.
• Want to get out? Push the mess aside and go!

Kinda like DebW's BugBivvy, but not enveloping the hammock.

I carried one for quite a while. Yes, even on the ground. A few years ago I got to thinking: I (used to) stay in shelters without bug netting & survive, why am I carrying bug netting for when I don't stay in a shelter? Add to that the really biting bugs like to hang around the shelters, at least in my mind there are more bugs at the shelters.
So I now, don't carry one anymore. That is at least the space in my pack for one extra dinner.

Exactly. I have some tulle that I'll be experimenting with. Grizz has made one for the bridge. I do think there is a market for both bridges and gathered end hammocks for what Mac describes above. I'll make something for myself but I have too many thumbs to make something for others. Bueller? . . . Bueller? . . .

I went without a bugnet this weekend. Mosquitos were out, but I used a wee bit of spray and wrapped my Trek Light double hammock around me cocoon-style throughout the night. Seemed to do the trick.
