I have been to Rickets on the falls loop, it's a great day hike! Never camped there yet but would really like to as there are a couple great trails there! I will post some of the pic's I took from my day hike here in a little bit!
Have fun on your trip and definitely post a report with pic's!

i'm going to post a trip report, but i just wanted to post that the rangers were great. they were strict, but they understood hammocking. was in the office and a tenter was in front and the ranger said "NO tents off pad....". i stepped up and said "i'm hammocking , Do i need to be over pad." he said "Hammock any where on your site. YOU guys don't disturb the soil." I THOUGHT I WAS DREAMING.
They even (3 of them) came out to site to look at hammocks. they were impressed.
My son, Kaia (Dog) and I had a great time.

Thats Great news KayakKarl. Looking forward to the trip report. I cant wait to hang my hammock at Rickets Glen in just a few weeks, Just to bad I wont be able to sleep in it bc ill be snuggling with my GF in a tent
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

    Trip Report

i left NJ at 5pm and got there at 10pm after picking up my son. it was snowing when we got there. water in dog bowl frozen in morn. we hiked falls trail, about 6 miles total. beautiful day. trail got crowded about 11. got back to camp and went to office to get posting permit. THE RANGERS WERE GREAT. love hammockers, but were very strick to the campers around us. pets MUST be on 6' leach and you must park on pad. we were fine, other campers were complaining about rangers, but if you follow rules they ARE GREAT. drove down 118 and got firewood for $12 a wheelbarrow full. 65 degrees during day and breezy. hung out in camp for the night. 45*Sunday morn i awoke to woodpecker morse code LOL ._ _ _ .. _... _... . ._. .. ... .... it started raining so we went to my dad's in Norristown. good day was had by all. http://community.webshots.com/album/...host=community

Nice trip report. Glad you, your son, and the dog had a good time. Look forward to seeing you at the Mahha. The Ranger in the Pine Barrens was cool the night I went camping in the pouring rain, he though we were crazy.

Kaia (Dog). Nice dog. Looks like Kaia likes outings for hammocking.

I am amazed the rangers "understand" hammocking. I hope I can hammock, then, in Glacier Natonal Park, MT.

I won't sleep in a tent on those platforms: it is like trying to sleep on hardpan.

    Ramblinrev,
    crushed limestone
ROCKS! Not putting my $350 tent on rocks, not even for appearances.

Must have been a federal bureaucrat who thought of crushed limestone.

I have been setting up a tent for appearances, setting out a Coleman stove for appearances, and then, sleeping in the car.

I only camp to get an early start on the trails.

I used to really enjoy camping in Glacier National Park, in the 1950's.

    Many happy memories there.
