For the price, you really can't. It's pretty cheap, not too horribly heavy and provides good coverage. I borrowed one from HC4U and used it at the April SEHHA Hangout and on my now infamously ill-fated AT section hike attempt. I had no problems with it at all, even after I wound up on the ground on the AT during a rain storm.

I might order another one and mod it into a hex tarp. For the price that's a good deal still.

Before anyone orders any more we should try for a group purchase discount.

I finally got mine last night. I like it, but I'm not sure what they were thinking when they made the stuff sack. Holy crud that thing is huge! I think I could fit all three of my tarps into that thing.

I did set it up last night just to 'play' and I'm really happy with the purchase. It is a wee bit on the heavy side, but it will be great for 2 or 3 day conditioning hikes (I pack heavy for those anyway) or car camping. I'll say it again, I don't know that you could do much better for the price. I don't remember anymore, but it seems to me that the materials to make my BlackCat cost me very close to the same amount. Although, my BlackCat provides more room I think the views will be better with this.

Now, when can I sneak out of work and go hiking?

The stuff sack is huge. With the 12x12 tarp there isnt so much room leftover, but with the 9x9 I have enough room to stuff my eno doublenest, slap strap, and tarp in the same bag. My guardian bugnet should be here soon. I will let you know if I can stuff that in there too! I think i can!

Yea, I'm thinking of getting a 12by & modifying it into a Mac cat type tarp. I have the 9by & by hanging corner to corner it's usually great, but when the wind blows hard, I need to hang square & if it's just a little off one way or the other, I can get wet. Plus I like a 11' (or longer) ridgeline for the tarp so I can hang my pack at one end of the hammock & use it as a closet.

AARRG, that is so off topic: Glad you guys got the tarp. As I said afore: SG is great!

    bhancock,

Woooh.... chect the weight..... also the size.... at a finished 9-3 it is too short for most hammocks.... this will require your to rig it asym, which will result in two strong side coverages and two weak side coverages, a classic issue of that approach....
