Being new, I am not sure where this would go. I find it useful. Other noobs might find it useful as well.

That site comes up about any time knots are mentioned.
It's a great site. Always good to have a reminder.

I like knots. They don't weight anything and can't be lost, unless you forget how to tie them, and often times I just trust them more than some gadget.

Animatedknots is a good web - one of my favorites - here are a few more you might like:

http://www.layhands.com/Knots/Index.htm - Go to the bottom of the page to the site index links - not animated but good pictures.

    - some really good knot information can be found here. There is a link at the top page to download a zipped file which is a copy of all the information on the web page, thereby you can view it all off-line. Just find the various knots_index.htm files within the downloaded unzipped files to open it in your browser.

http://www.netknots.com/ - pretty good animations, not as many knots as Animated knots.

Here's a direct link to how to tie a slipped buntline hitch"
    http://www.netknots.com/html/slipped_buntline.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_knots - not so good illustrations on the wikipedia web page, but a comprehensive list of knots and when you click on a given knot the page it takes you to usually has external links to web pages with good illustrations or animations on how to tie them. And many good links to other knotting webpages such as Chockstone and others.

    WANT SOMETHING PORTABLE ?
    - if you have an iPod touch or iPhone there are several apps on iTunes which have decent step by step photos of how to tie them.

The two that I have on my iPod are :

"What knot to do" by Columbia - a free app

    " Knot Guide" by Winkpass - $2

There are several others which I have not downloaded, here's a few of them:

    "Knot Time" - $3 , has video
"Knot Time Lite" - free , has video

" Pro-knot" is linked to by the netknot web page above - $2

There are many others, The Columbia Knot Guide is free, has more ratings than the others and has I think 70 knots.

Anyway - if looking for something portable and you have an iPod you might find these type apps useful.

I have also bought some of these booklets. Keep it and a length of rope in a few key places. When i or my kids are bored, we practice. Good for memorizing the key knots we use.
