    Hammocking with kids

I am making each of our kids their own hammock. The kids are 12, 11, 8 and 5 years old.

We are planning a summer hammock camping trip. I will put the 3 older kids together and then the little one and I will camp very close to each other. We will all be in close proximity of course!

I'm thinking that because a hammock is so lightweight and can compress pretty small, the kids can carry their own hammock in their own backpack. Should be pretty light for them!

Any one else hammock with kids? Any hints?

In warm weather you could get away with 2 tarps. One for the older kids and one for you and the youngest.

I have been wanting to stack hammocks 2 or 3 high on the same tree for awhile. Post pics if you do.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I have thought of stacking them in warm weather. no different than a bunk bed really. Hopefully there are no mid night pee runs! However the boys would have it easy! Pee in a bottle and go back to bed!

Will take pics once we go on the first one. Going to make the first one close to home to be safe!

I hammock with my kids all the time. They are 5, 3, and 1 1/2. The trick with the older ones are to keep them from playing and to go to bed. With the youngest he just climbes into the hammock with my wife and they sleep together. The oldest will even get out of bed and go to pee on her own. We tr to get under two tarps so that we are all close.

My kids hammock every time we camp. As slowhike said, there's some info on the kids tab at my page, and several pics on the Trip Reports and Homemade Gear tabs.

Hrm...I don't think I'd encourage my kids to pee in a bottle in the hammock. Maybe yours are more coordinated than mine are!

You can fit two folks under one tarp no problem. Three might be crowded, though.

My kids love sleeping in hammocks, my youngest is 18 months so he just sleeps with me no problem. My 3 year old does have a problem sometime going pee at night, I don't trust him with a bottle Recently I hanged a hammock up inside their playhouse so that they could hang and watch a movie at the same time If I'm lucky they take a nap up there too!

Here's a good pic of Short Stuff after a night sleeping in the hammock with me. Again, for the record, don't EVER sleep in the same hammock as a 5 year old. Please avoid this at all costs. It's not a pleasant experience. Really, any time with my kid rocks!
