    Noseeum Neeting and Velcro

I am making a bug net for my hammock and was wondering if the velcro attached to the netting needs to be reinforced? I am worried the netting will tear when separating the velcro halves.

My plan is to place velcro around the edge of the hammock.

    welcome to hammock forums dyee.
that's how the bug net is made for the speer hammocks.
as far as i know, they just fold the edge of the bug net to from a thicker edge to sew the velcro to.
my guess is that they would do a double fold on the edge of the bug net.
maybe some of the others here know. ...tim

I have been planning the exact same thing, I was thinking of using a zipper, but then I would have to custom order one that size. I too was worried about it tearing, but I think Slowhike is right. You should be ok as long as you reinforce it

This is kind of unrelated, but I just noticed that my netting has been stretched and bunched in several places on the foot end of my Hennessy. I assume this must be from closing the snakeskins in, without sealing the velcro entrance up. The spiky part of the velcro must be catching in the netting and causing this. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, I'm not trying very hard to sell the hammock, but if anyone's interested... It's just the standard A-sym Explorer and tarp. I'm not including any tree straps , stuff sack, or snakeskins. Other than the bunched up netting, one small hole needing patched, and 20 nights of use, there's nothing wrong with it. If I really wanted to sell it, I would just post it on the 4 sale forum.

well, when my aunt's neighbor sewed the velcro onto the nanoseeum, she did not fold it at all. and still going strong!! no tears, only since its velcro it does stick to the nanoseeum, but that has not bee an issue either.

If you put a roll hem on the netting and then sew on the Velcro you shouldn't need any reinforcement.

That's been my experience as well.
