    No more pins!

I know this may sound odd, but I found a alternate to pinning grosgrain on my tarp project. I broke out the good old military grade stapler.

Since it takes me forever to finish a project, staples allowed me to ball up the tarp and throw it into my sewing trunk (am I allowed to say that) without worrying the pins my poke the fabric.

Plus with a 2 year old always at my side (love it) I don't have to worry about boo-boo's from the pins.

I guess you're planning to leave the staples in place? I would think that getting them out again would be quite a chore.

Obviously you've never worked in a print shop

maaaannnnnn You used to pull staples out by the hundreds.

Plus there's a trick I can see doing that would make this so easy. You coulduse any hand stapler with regular 25-sheet staples. but instead of compressing all the way, go just enough so that it crimps the ends but doesnt smoosh them. Do your sewing.

Pull out your pocket knife, grab the tarp, sit down in front of the tv and just pry up each of the ends, turn it over and pull it out with your finger.

I MIGHT TRY THIS ON MY NEXT TARP!

Staples are the way you attach luff tape and leech tape on sails before they went to the sewing machine. You build up a good callous on your thumb using the staple puller after the sewing is done. Every sailmaker has one of these in his pocket....

well then I learned something new already today, my criteria for a good day, and this before I've finished with my 2nd cup of caffine delivery vehicle.

    can I go home now?

    thanks

They work fine. They are made for hair!

I just fold the grosgrain in half and sew. When you fold it in half and it is 12" or so out in front of the foot, you can kind of feel when the edges of the grosgrain are together because there is a little lip. Just pinch the to ribbon lips together. One thing that does help is that I "pre" fold it in half before each run to the foot. Try it. I probably made no sense at all...

It also helps to have put a mile of Grosgrain though your injector..

Hey Mac, what exactly are those clips and where do you get them? I have been trying to find something called "seam clips" and can't find any of the local fabric stores that know what I'm asking about.
