As long as it covers the ends of your hammock by 6"s or so your good......
Just depends on weight and side coverage.

Being down in OC I would say go with the WB Big Mamajamba or the WB The Edge. You wouldn't need to go with the WB SuperFly unless you intend to come up here to Redwood Country and hang out in the torrential rains that we have. If you got your hammock from brandon, you might as well keep supporting him and get your tarp from him too!

I did a quick write-up-review on my WB SuperFly (Silnylon) http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=16028 which you might enjoy.

    bigger is NOT better

The JRB 8'X8' is plenty of coverage. A bigger tarp is heavier. A bigger tarp may not fit between your preferred trees. A bigger tarp may require more stakes and more guylines. I made a snarky comment about having to stow 10 guylines in another thread. Simple is most always faster.

The wind direction is pretty predicable here in Colorado. I almost always hang my hammock north/south with the wind coming from the west. If the best trees are east/west then a Griz Beak is useful. But a poncho can be used with a JRB 8'X8' to make a pretty good beak.
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

I tend to agree with food on that...there's a definite trend towards wrapping our hammocks in full tents, but I like smaller whenever I can get away with it. Bigger ones are good for windy winters, but in summer I don't see the need.

Bigger is not better when a heavier weight is involved. But why wouldn't you go with a Big Mamajamba Spinn thats 11' x 9.75' for a weight of only 11 ounces over a JRB 8 x 8@ 9.4?No offense Jack your products speak for themselves and I've purchased many in the past. Blowing rain has been an issue in the past on the AT in spring and Summer storms can be terrible.I'd rather go with being safe than sorry...especially if its only if its >2oz. Just my .02

Price is one reason that immediately comes to mind.

The SpinnUL Big Mamajamba is $160 and the JRB 8x8 is $89.95.

I have a Mamajamba in SpinnUL and it is wonderful. Only thing I might consider is the doors if my girlfriend decides to go to a hammock..
