    The Perfect Hammock

Hey all, I've been discussing some manufacturing with my friend who works with textiles for the mining industry, and he's fabricated tents and the like and he's interesting in doing a hammock. Now, I'm no designer but I would LOVE to hear about some ideas that NEED to be incorporated into a hammock for the majority of you so that I can get one produced a) for myself and b) maybe for all of you that want one... I've been researching materials and the like, and my friend says that it's a go if I can come up with something that he can work with. What do you all think?

I've been here for a while now... I was gonna buy and stuff, but my buddy suggested that he could do it and I figured, if it turns out okay, why not let people know. I just have no idea where to start... I know what I was planning on ordering, but still not sure what I WANT in addition to the things that some offer.

Prefer double-layered slit-open bottom to slide insulation into. Prefer WIDE body, to hang on the diagonal (so I can get flatter). Prefer material to be parachute material.

Other than that, the rest is customization of "accessories"....shelves, ridgelines, gear hammocks, under quilts and over quilts, hammock socks, tarps, etc.

If someone could produce a comfortable 2 person hammock (where both parties don't automatically slide to the center), they could make a pretty good go of it on this forum.

Self heating and under a pound.

I never drink water. I'm afraid it will become habit-forming.

    Yep,
the best feature would have to be built in temperature control and under a pound. Now that would catch my eyes!

Don't forget the treeless, anti-gravity suspension system.

    More usefully - how about:
Built in overcover to trap heat on those cold nights.
Gear pockets inside at both ends.
    Optional side tie-outs.
    Bug net! (zippered is nice)
    Structural ridgeline.
Double layer if you think a pad may be used, ever.
