    Expedition Asym

I'm considering purchasing this for my first hammock, I plan to use it on backpacking trip. Any personal exprience/horror stories or anything of the sort? Thanks.

Okay Few questions, By Zipper Mod what do you mean?

    And

What is the use of the tarp?

The HH's are one of a number of good hammocks.
I have the HH UL Explorer Asym (and a JRB Bear Mountain Bridge). I think it's well made and I kinda like the bottom slit entrance (some don't), but I'll probably get a zipper modification after a good test through a season of bugs.

Like Fox said, get the larger Hex tarp in lightweight SilNylon.

I would also recommend getting a second set of Snakeskins (one for the tarp, one for the hammock).

Also get the 5 or 6 foot tree huggers; 42" one are too short for some medium trees around here.

I'm experimenting with the undercover (jury is still out, but it may prove useful). I had it down to 26° with the undercover, Mylar sheet, and HH foam pad. I don't necessarily recommend the foam pad since it is bulky to pack up (you'll never get it back in the stuff sack it came out of), but it does what it's supposed to.

With the undercover and a JRB Hudson River under-quilt (no Mylar sheet) I was cozy down to 19°F, but did have condensation in the lower part of the undercover. Not too much, but it would have accumulated over an extended time and wet the down. The mylar sheet between the bottom of the hammock and the under-quilt might have helped.

    Oh, and welcome to HammockForums!

The entrance hole at the bottom of the Hennessy is very annoying when it is dark and cold. The zipper mod will take care of that.

    How big/small are you?

IMHO, if you're close to 6' or taller then the Explorer models would be more comfortable. I'm 6' on the money and while I can sleep in an Expedition, there is a big comfort difference for me vs an Explorer.

Course, this assumes you go with a HH after all the recomendations you'll get before this thead is done.

The supplied tarp is adequate but just so. You'll find a lot more joy in a bigger tarp you can cook under or just sit and relax in a rainy spell. Winter ... that is where a larger tarp shines ... to block the warm robbing wind ... even if you have a good UQ.
