    Diamond shaped tarps????

I got some great looking silver/gray sil-nylon and want to make as light as possible a 3 season tarp.
I was concidering doing a diamond shape because of minimal material and fast set-up. I like the idea of having just 2 stakeout points and I think doing a slight cat cut on all 4 edges would keep it pretty taut.

What do ya'll think? Any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have the diamond that came with my Claytor...really like it. I may sell the hammock one day, but the tarp is a keeper.

Despite its simplicity the diamond type tarp is really effective with great coverage, hang it low for bad weather .You are correct those two stakes only are a big bonus.I also have the Claytor system and the hammock along with the tarp are definately keepers for me.Good luck with the design.Look forward to seeing it particularly them cat cuts.

HB, I'm not sure cat cuts are neccessary, since your pulling on the tarp in four equal directions. Are the Clator tarps cut differently on the edge? I don't recall? (can't tell by looking at the pics on their website) Seems like you may loose some coverage, if your cuts are extreme.

Rectangular tarps need the cat to make up for the extra length on the two long sides.

BUT......I do want to see it done, so do it.

Yeah, your right on the cat cuts not being necessary, but.....like you said I will do a very gentle cut just to see what difference, if any, it will have.

I want a diamond shape too. I had the SG 9x9 but the RL on that thing was like 13 ft. It was very aggravating trying to find two trees the perfect length apart with that tarp. That is why I went to rectangle tarps. I am going to make my own out of some of the black sil from NL with a 10-11 foot RL. I love the ENO diamond shape tarp size... just needs to be a hair longer. It's also way too heavy. Probably going to use it as a pattern, but add some size to it.

    I just bought a 9.5'x9.5' chinook tarp from http://www.sonomaoutfitters.com/ista...=6&id=1101!025

I'm new to the hammock camping thing, next weekend I'll be trying it out. Set it up in the back yard. Seems really nice for the money.

I have two diamond tarps. One is the Kelty Noah9 and the other is the Funky Forest tarp by Grandtrunk Goods. Both of these have a slight cat-cut on them. Like neo said I too use mine all year long.
