Missouri Frozen Butt Hang January 27-28, 2023 - Bell Mountain on OT

Yes the location and time have been decided. We will meet at the Highway A TH on Friday the 27th to hang at the camping area there. On Saturday we will hike up to the Bell Mountain Loop and hang in the area of the southeast facing bluff. If you were there on previous hangs, the plan is the same. I believe last time some persons set up on top of the mountain and others some ways below.

Friday evening will be pot luck food/snacks with a campfire and visiting. Saturday will be bring our own with campfires and a possible loop hike around for any interested. I’m hoping for clear weather for sunrise/sunset.

Bring all your cold weather gear so we can see what works for others and get some ideas.

Looking forward to meeting some of the regulars from Taum Sauk along with some from earlier hangs. This will be fun.

The Highway A trailhead is at mile marker 26. Saturday we will hike up to the loop and hang near mile marker 4 on the blue Bell Mountain loop just off the OT south of the TH. Highway A is accessible from Highway 32 from the north and Highway 49 from the south.

I plan on bringing Buffalo and BBQ wings, and would like to know how many to make.

I've got six down as definites, at least four more probablys, and a couple of maybes. My guess is that some folks are waiting for the weather forecast to firm up before committing. Hopefully they will chime in here on this thread to confirm. Also, it helps if everyone could mention what, if anything, they plan to bring (no obligation)... food, firewood, extra gear, etc.

I’ll be bringing one of those single burner butane stoves to reheat the wings, but I also have an extra small backpacking stove kit I could bring.
I’ll be bringing my Silky saw if we need to cut some wood.

I’m looking forward to this weekend, although the temperatures may not be much of a gear test.

If I arrive early enough Friday I may carry a saw up and cut some firewood on top.

Rather than bring a dish Friday, I will bring some sausage and eggs for Saturday morning. Does someone have a skillet large enough for as many as 20 eggs that we can use?

I’ve got a 12” bottom cast iron one that I just need to season first.
The 9” bottom one I usually use regularly fits 10 scrambled eggs.
