Gee...I hadn't even thought of that. There will probably be several now that you have given us the idea...

Although that is another thing I don't think about as much as I used to...

As a fellow Texan kayaker, I'd love to hear more about that trip! I've been wanting to paddle the ICW for a few years. Thought about making a sail to help with the paddling a little bit. Do you have any details about your trip posted anywhere?
ok, for a bit of a side track .....
I don't yet have a thread about this per say ...
and I'm not quite sure where I'd put it,
but I am on these other forums where I talk about it some:
    http://www.texas200.com/
    http://paddle24seven.com/
My trip will be a bit offshore, bays, and ICW.
I got about 2 weeks worth of food and 7 gallons of water.
and like I said, with the weather getting warmer now
I'll have my Frog Sac along with me! and a wool blanket
It's the synthetic vs down thing around water ....
also wool stays warm if it gets wet.
I've already done from the Rio Grande River
which is the US/Mexico border to my house
and from the jetties to the river is all offshore.
That was my southern part, now to go north, way north!
I'm looking for a window of weather and work
and I might have a small downwind sail along with me,
but don't have one yet. I'm on a tight budget .....
Now I'm not the only one who is thinking about doing this (of course),
and many have done it .....
there is no website, thread, club or list for those that did it.
It's all purely self satisfaction and adventure.
Many do it solo, like I am .....
but, in June there is the Texas 200 ....
just a messabout group starting at south padre / port mansfield
and heading up the ICW for a couple hundred miles.
I wish I had a spot tracker for this ...
but it's just not in the budget,
nor do I have a handheld vhf radio, oh well.
I do have along with me some good food though!

this link is for Austin Davis' recent trip.
he had his fair share of excitement!
I also know of a guy that did the trip in a rowboat,
from north to south, against the wind .....
and a couple that used a paddle boards all off shore,
but they had support of the surfrider foundation all along the way.
I'll be completely self supported, camping along the way .....
hopefully I can find somebody to pick me up at sabine pass
    and bring me back home!
