One important question before I order my Whoopie.

Has anyone found the combination of a 6' Whoopie combined with a 6' Tree Hugger to be too short? If I wanted to make the system longer, I assume the greater weight/bulk savings would to buy a longer Whoopie, not longer Tree Huggers. I live in the Northeast and would be replacing a traditional strap/buckle/biner configuration. My current straps are about 15' each which is probably way longer than needed.

Is there any consensus on the proper length combo? I'd be using it with a Clark NX 250.

You will be able to make that work. The downside is you will lose adjustability with a shorter whoopie and you will have to carry longer huggers which adds weight. I usually carry 2' hugger and 7+' whoopies. The huggers often don't go all the way around the tree, but as long as it is on the back side and sides you are good. I often have to run my whoopie through the one loop of my hugger and toggle to the other one. Real big tree I just leave alone. I think many here use 3' or 4' huggers and wrap 2x for smaller trees.

I use two 4.5' straps and 4.5' whoopies. So far I have no trouble camping. You just can't brag about some 20' hang.

6 and 6 is probably the most ordered from me. Next would be 8' straps and 6' slings. Then 8 and 8.

Im now making the combination of the two in one piece. This adds a ring to the system to eliminate water running down the suspension and into your hammock and also eliminates the possibility of leaving your straps behind.

I use 15' straps. The trees in my backyard are greater than 9' in circumference and they are about 18' apart. Many of the places I camp have at least one bigger tree in the mix. I'd hate to be in an old growth area and not have enough suspension to hang.

Opie...I can't seem to understand where the ring comes into play. Any pics of that floating around. I don't see any mention of that on your site. Does that replace the toggles and Marlin Spike hitch? Don't want to place an order just to find out I bought yesterday's technology.

A handy solution for trees being too far apart is to carry 1 or 2 six foot lengths of Amsteel with a fixed eye at each end. These extenders weigh next to nothing and take up almost no space.

...AND...my "normal" suspension set up has one 6 foot tree strap and one 9 foot tree strap. It is rare to be in a situation not covered by that strap combination...and having a bit of extra Amsteel is a quick and relatively painless way to cover the rare situation of having two humongous trees for hanging.

I guess I'm a little dense but I still don't understand the purpose of the ring. With a hammock such as mine why can't you run the fixed loop through the channel, run the adjustable end through the fixed loop, cinch it up and still have the adjustable end permanently attached to the tree hugger. It seems like the ring is simply an extra attachment point....why not make it direct? What the heck am I missing here?
