Thread Injector Suggestions

Time to buy my own. I want something simple.

Here's how I look at it, I have my moms new one I can use, tons of knobs, button, features much like her new SUV I have to take the windshield wiper fluid off of just to access the battery.

I can get something like this ( I was told they would take $75 for it)

With a lot less parts, a little more like my 65 cuda that I can access anything I want with absolutely no hassle.


What do you think? Any other suggestions? Older- classic stuff is more my style anyways. My only question is - can this go in reverse to secure my stitches?

I'd get it serviced by a mechanic but that model is widely used and very popular amongst the DIY crowd.

The only thing you might wish you had is reverse, if it is only forward. As RRev has said before, you can do without, but you can get machines about ten years younger that cost the same, and have reverse. IMHO, there is no need for zigzag stitches.

it is a heck of a deal- cabinet and extra feet? score!
for reverse- lift the presser foot and pull fabric back about .5-1 inch;engage foot, re-sew next to first stitches, continue onward... easy-peasy!

That's the process. It sounds awkward but once you get used to it it is almost as fast as flipping a lever for reverse. IMO 1 inch is way overkill. half inch is as long as I have ever gotten using that technique. If you pull back too long you get some loose threads that can be a problem down the road depending on what you are doing. The other thing to remember is that you don't need to reverse lock a stitch line that is going to be crossed by another stitch line. Reverse is nice to have but by no means a requirement.

Well that apparently was a hot item because I just contacted them and it is now sold.

I like the look and the simplicity. I am going to keep looking at vintage machines. Save the motor, is it easy to dump a lot of money into these things or are repairs normally pretty reasonable?

LB check at walmart they are closing the fabric dept in all stores. Last time I was in there, they had good machines marked down 30-40%.

If you go to your local sewing machine repair shop, you will probably find used machines that have been traded in. It is normal for the shop to check them out and tune them up before selling them. You will get the most for your money this way. There are some great old machines out there!
