    Need source of tarp binding

Ok, I've got the DIY bug, and received my box of "goodies" from Rocky Woods today, and I need one more thing. What is that black binding around the tarps called, and where do you order it? I looked on my Hennessy hex, and its nylon ripstop binding. Do we make our own from fabric, or order it from a roll? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

    Grosgrain. pronounced "grow-grain" silent 's'.
All fabric stores carry varying sizes, styles, and thickness. Its basically thin webbing. Its sold by the yard or by the roll.

It's called "Grosgrain". Look HERE for one source.

Even though my WalMarts don't have sewing sections anymore they still carry grosgrain in the ribbon section of the craft section.

Well, grosgrain is what I ordered from Rocky Woods, and it's ribbed just like hair ribbon. My HH tarp has something else, and that's what I want. Forgive me, I am a newbie, and hopefully will attend by 1st hang with.....gulp....Neo next month, so I haven't seen any real gear "in person". Look forward to learning a bunch of new things.

My HH tarp is stored so I can't really look at it. It is certainly possible for Hennessy to make ripstop ribbons to use as a binding on the tarps. They would need to be DWR or sil in order to stop the raveling. If you want to make your own there are cutters sold to the quilting/rug making community which would facilitate the cutting of the strips. You would need to decide if you want a straight grain ribbon or a bias cut ribbon. Either would be doable with the cutters but they would behave quite differently. Bias cut would stretch more and be easier to work with on curves. Straight grain would be easier to multifold with home equipment. Look at commercial bias tape to see what is meant by the multifold terminology.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Rablinrev, me thinks you're correct. Hennessy probably "outsources" his sewing overseas, and they make their own binding. It's really tight and neat edging. Think I'll contact some of our cottage venders if they wouldn't mind answering my question.
