    introducing myself

I had a Choinard Pea Pod, years ago, for hanging on a rock face, using pitons and carabiners.

I also used that hammock under the trampoline of my Hobie 16 sailboat.

Now, I am older, the new hammocking looks good to me for the good campsites I had to pass up because of uneven ground.

I would like to try hammock camping with my kayak, as well. I see some very nice places I would like to camp and explore.

I have got a start: Grand Trunk UL Travel hammock, WhoOpie slings and ridgeline.

I have a poncho liner and an on-sale down quilt, I modified. I am looking at tarps.

I would like to make my own gear, unless I can find what I like.

I like the coyote brown hammock I saw, in a thread. Maybe the photo only made it look coyote brown?

I asked, in the thread, but no one responded.

The underquilt also appeared to be coyote brown. If I recall, the OP said the underquilt is coyote brown.

As far as I am concerned, that was a beautiful setup. I haven't settled on a tarp color, but I know I like that hammock and underquilt and mosquito net combination.

I wonder, if I found the fabric, could I have the underquilt made?

I can make a travel hammock.

I am uncertain I could make a lightweight and sturdy tarp.

I have been watching the discussion about a cuben tarp. If coyote brown, I know I want one!

I haven't seen more said about it.

I post, but seldom have a reply, much less, start a conversation.

Is this forum, a bunch of guys who already know each other and go "hang" together?

I don't expect to go on an organized "hang". I just want information, and, a little help now and then.

Some threads are so interesting, I jump in, but hardly anyone responds.

I like making things. It doesn't mean I will.

Many times, I would rather just pay the person who has all the details worked out. Sometimes, I ask to incorporate an idea. That's about it.

    I guess, that introduces me.

I have a dot info website ultralightbackpackingonline. info but I am not here doing research.

    I want to hammock.

Don't take it personally. I think everyone just follows what interests them about hammocking, here.

Not at all. This group is as widespread and diverse as you can imagine. But, folks that live in the same geographic regions often get together for hikes/paddles/hangouts, because we often share interests. I've greatly enjoyed meeting folks in person that I've talked to on the forum.

Probably. It would depend on what kind of quilt and insulation. Just ask the folks that make gear often and see what they say...

You actually did get an answer. Warbonnet does have Coyote brown for a limited time. And that underquilt is indeed brown, and was made by The Perfect Trees.

Welcome. Sounds like you're well on your way to this hammockin' stuff.
As AS said, don't take it personally if you don't get a reply. I look at a lot of threads, but don't feel qualified as a relative NOOB to comment on most. I suspect there are quite a few of us here with that mentality.

In regards to the coyote brown hammock/UQ/Tarp. Here's the link: Coyote Brown.

I think the hammock was a WBBB in a limited version run of brown by warbonnet guy (at the link posted by AS). The Ptarmigan (and correct me if I'm wrong folks) is from Stormcrow who has his own basement sweatshop (theperfecttrees). And I think Sclittlefield has tree bark brown sil to make tarps with. (backwoodsdaydreamer). I think if you contacted them you could likely find what you are looking for.

I have never been to an organized hang, though I'd really like to some time so I can meet all these jokers on HF. And although we've never met, I'd consider many of them as friends.

I am trying to picture your hammock under the trampoline on a Hobie 16. Wouldn't that put you pretty much IN the water?

Welcome Connie, kayak camping is great. I have a Prijon Kodiak and at 17 feet long and 450 lbs capacity, I can bring in firewood with me! Get a bunch of drybags though, eating soggy cereal is no fun. The manufacture of your boat may say the compartments are dry, don't believe them. If you don't want it to get wet, put it in a dry bag.

    Welcome aboard!

    Welcome Connie!

You most certainly CAN have a quilt made with your choice of material. I might have been the one that made the Coyote Brown one you are referring to in your post. Sorry if I missed something you wrote in the other thread. Shoot me a pm if you like and we can talk about all things hammocks! I love to gear talk...

LOL....Well I have moved the "sweatshop" from the basement to the attic for now (stole my son's room). It is much sweatier now as it gets warmer too.

Hi Connie. Please know that you are very welcome here. I'm a female/not one of the guys. Like others have said, don't take it personally. You may be asking questions that may be a little hard to answer. Or sometimes people post and forget to look back. Other times threads just peter out. Thanks for website link!

A big hello from Soonerland! I favor coyote brown too. My Hennessy ultralight backpacker is that color. I bought it from someone on this forum. Also, if you like camo fabric, the brown in it is coyote brown. I'm going to attempt a diamond shaped camo tarp. If you locate the fabric, and post what you need sewn, I'm sure one of our vendors will reply. Again, welcome.
