    new arrival sayin' hi ~

    hey folks,

how cool is this? and here i thought i was nearly alone as far as sleepig in hammocks(in north america). i never knew it was such a big thing in the camping/backpacking world now.

i've had a mayan hammock hangin in my bedroom for 3 years now , sleep in it almost exclusively (like a baby i might add) best rest i've ever gotten.recommend em to all my friends and started selling them here n there ...

ive used a similar one for camping as well, with a tarp hung over a line above for rain/privacy.. though wasnt aware of all these new innovative "camping hammocks" aside from teh old army style G.I ones that didnt look too comfortable... pretty cool stuff!

so now i'm checking out all these designs trying to pick one out, i'm 6'3 225 so space is an issue! was leaning towards an HH explorer deluxe, though they get kinda pricey with the accessories etc...afterall these are still hammocks right?
weight isnt a big concern as,sadly, i dont have freetime to hike for weeks on end, mostly just weekend trips...

being pretty DIYish and handy,i'm sure i'll want to design my own eventually.but for the time being ill pick one up...
a friend has a "hammock bliss" type which he picked up for a measley 30-40 bucks..i fit ok in that, but do you normally keep you pack inside with you? that'd be cramped with this 1..
the hammock below a hammock idea(like the HH undercover) for storage is a great idea, maybe adding a strong zipper or velcro to the hammock side-bottom for access would be nice eh? is that a feature in any of the ones on market already?.

lookin fwd to more reading up.
    catcha's soon

    Welcome!

I use a hammock under a hammock concept, but it's more for a back-up than storage. It can also be used as a weak wind block or I can stuff it full of leaves for added insulation if need be.

But, I usually just end-up clipping my pack to the rings with a biner and let it hang. It just makes it a little more accessible IMO. If weather is going to be an issue, I throw it in the 'gear hammock' otherwise it would get soaked from drippage off the webbing.

I am also a hammock sleeper at home. There are a few of us here and mayans (or a version of) seem to be the choice for most. You'll be happy with an Explorer for camping. If price is an issue, call and check for demos. I've heard of people getting some really good deals doing that. You've already got a tarp, so all that's left is insulation....then fans, then glow in the dark tie-outs, then skins, then removeable bug netting, well you get the idea.
