Smile Yo! 'New' to HF. Thanks!!

    Yo! Hi. Howdy. Hello.
My name is Jim Payne, current trail name "PITA" - if you can't figure that out, I can explain in more detail...
I've already made a couple of posts, so thought I should 'formally' introduce myself, too (!)...

I was born and raised in far northern CA ("State of Jefferson" - Google it) a few decades ago, but currently live in central PA (hint: think JoePa)...
I got the hammock bug a few years ago - darn ground just keeps getting harder and lumpier the older I get!!
My current obsession is gearing up (actually down in weight) for a PCT thru-hike, on which I plan to hammock the whole way... If the Ewoks in 2002 and Roni from Israel in 2003 could do it, so can I!

My thanks for all the great info to be found on HF from so many knowledgeable HF community members...
Special thanks to the moderators for such a great forum - and some of the vendors. too... Let's hear it for the "cottage industry" folks!
Thanks to Shug & Grizz for the videos, and many more individuals that make HF such a special community - all your efforts are greatly appreciated.

I hope I can also contribute and share my knowledge of both my somewhat limited hammock camping and extensive backpacking experience on HF...
If you want to know anything about the Pacific Crest Trail - ask away - I probably have it memorized!

    Take care. Happy hanging!
    Happy trails!!!
    Jim (PITA)

    Thanks, beep...
I 'wish' I could go this year(!) or next, but realistically 2012 is probably the earliest.
    Happy trails!!!

A close family friend solo hiked the PCT in 2008. She REALLY liked the experience though it had its tough moments. When she got to the end, she wasn't ready for reentry so she turned around and backtracked for several days to prepare mentally for the "real world".

Yep, that can be a problem for many!
I plan on 'semi-retiring' and will be on some long trail every summer after that until I can no longer walk!
What was her trail name? I do a little trail magic while visiting my old home turf (usually at Etna Summit, PCT mile ~1606), plus I started the "PCT Perpetual Bear Canister Loan Program" in '07 - we might have crossed 'paths' in '08 (?)...
    Happy trails!!!
