structural ridgeline question

I'm looking to add a structural ridgeline to the Grand Trunks Double I just picked up. This is my first hammock, and I've watched Shugs essential for noobs videos but still have some questions.

I stopped by the local climbing shop to get some cord for the Ridgeline. The guy there recommended Webbing, as it has a giant strength, and limited stretching. This article: http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeHammock4.html said webbing would work, but I'm still unsure if I got the right stuff. Any tips or advice you guys can offer would be much appreciated. I'd like to make my ridgeline adjustable like Shugs, but am unsure how to go about doing it.

Just use some para-cord ..... that is what I always used until I got one of opies adjustable whoopie sling ridgelines.
If you use paracord just tie and untie to adjust.....

Paracord can work, but it's designed to stretch. Depending on how tightly you hang your hammock, that stretch can affect the lay. If you have paracord and want to use it, just hang the supports loosely and it shouldn't put too much force on the ridgeline.

I like using Spectra, BPL Air Core, etc. But really, any rope or cord will work.

So the webbing I got will work? I was going to get 7mm cord but got the webbing instead, will the extra bulk of webbing make any difference?

the extra bulk will only make a difference to you. If you rig it up and decide you don't like the bulk, then change it. But if it doesn't bother you, then don't worry about it. Ridge line is another one of those really "grey" areas of personal choice.

Nah I'll be toting it mostly in conjunction with a small bushcraft kit, or in my kayak, it will still be worlds lighter then a tent in comparison.

I want to use whoopie slings on my clark hammock. I also want an adjustable ridgeline. The problem is that the ridgeline cannot attach at the end of the hammock. On the Clark it has to attach about 18" up the whoopie sling.

I can put a prussik loop or butterfly knot or bury the ridgeline on the whoopie sling between the fixed end and where the adjustable end exits the whoopie sling. I am not sure if prussiks or the butterfly will hold and/or weaken the amsteel ( I doubt it would be a problem)

Any thoughts?

Prusik base should be fine so long as the ridgeline cord diameter is small relative to WS cord. Assuming the WS is amsteel, then 1.8mm diameter LashIt is prefect for this job

Yep, Lash It grips nice on 2.5mm Amsteel

I heard a story today. IIRC it was a 16 year old had to go in for carpel tunnel surgery.
