Hey, for a little fun and excitement maybe you could try stealth camping on Stone Mountain.

Yea I sure did. It was back in July. Very cool experience indeed. Except for the part when I found out my batteries in my camera were dead. I usually carry backups but not this time. Would have had a cool shot of the downtown Atlanta skyline in the background. I'm sure it's not something they want you to do on Stone Mountain but saw no signs about not camping. Would have done it anyway. Got there pretty late, around 9:30. Funny thing was when the lady at the ticket gate said I better hurry cause the laser show had just started.
Really cool up there all alone except for a few people coming down with no headlamps. I found some nice trees just below the top of the mountain. Around 11:00 I heard a couple of guys walking by but they did'nt notice me. The wind was really blowing me around pretty good and it was kinda cold. Tons of places to hang on the mountain.

That's pretty cool. You must have just carried your stuff in a daypack. I would think a backpack might draw a little suspiscion.

No, I had my backpack. My 10.5 oz. backpack. No real concern cause it was so dark. I just watched for park cops as I made my way to the trailhead.

The very first time I used my hammock on a backpacking trip I used two tarps, a JRB 8x8 and the stock Explorer Ultralight tarp. Here are a few pics I posted over at WB right after the trip:

    Twp Tarp Pic 2

The two tarps worked VERY well, keeping me dry on a very wet weekend. It is worth noting that my wife also stayed dry in her ULB with the stock tarp.

I have since switched to an OES Mac Cat Deluxe and my wife uses the JRB 8x8.
