Your dog is welcome both for camping and hiking.

There is water available at the park office, but it is considered non-potable. The source is a nearby artesian well piped into the office/maintenance building. A few years ago, the water became clouded, and they stopped drinking it and labeled it non-potable as a precaution. Since we are car camping the first night, you can bring the water you need there. There will be water in Rogers Creek along the trail but no water at the campsite on Stegall. We will carry water up when we hike.

I am getting clearance from the Peck Ranch Superintendent, who was very helpful when we camped there two years ago. If approved, I will once again arrive a day early to cut some firewood and haul some extra water up to Stegall Mountain. I will report our final plans once he approves them.

Thank you Joe. Your answers are most helpful! I would certainly appreciate the extra water up on Stegall Mountain. I know I can carry enough for myself but some extra for Hershey will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to meeting you.

I have an extra dog pack if you'd like to borrow it. Hershey is plenty big enough to carry his own food and water!

Long-range forecasts show colder-than-normal temperatures with possible snow on Friday, especially at or south of Peck Ranch. I have yet to get a return phone call from the Peck Ranch Superintendent. We may consider remaining at Pine Circle CG on Saturday night to have bail-out vehicles available. If so, we could do a group hike on Saturday to the Stegall Bald and possibly over to the fire tower. What are your thoughts?

Since we will have multiple vehicles, we could pre-stage one or two bail-out vehicles at the upper lot that is close to the tower, and then ride together down to the trailhead.
That would save us the hike back like last time

I’m also thinking we might have lucked out and actually nailed the coldest weekend this year.

That's the spirit! It's hardly a challenge if the overnight temps are not at least in the teens.

Are we gonna do a potluck type dinner Friday night?
    Do we have a headcount?
I could also grab a big pizza from the Casey’s in Winona as I pass through if there are only a few of us and no one feels like cooking anything.
I won’t be passing through Winona until around 5:45pm anyways.

Mrs. Twentybelow plans to make a big pot of venison chili to share for the Friday night meal. We'll also provide the fixins (shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped onions). If someone wants to bring some corn bread, that would be appreciated. I sent out several private messages to previous FBH attendees but haven't gotten any replies yet. As it stands currently, based on the comments in this thread, it sounds like maybe six of us?

Okay, I’ll handle the cornbread then.
I can bring my big cast iron skillet again too if we want to make a big bunch of scrambled eggs in the morning fire.
