    Love the illustrations.

Have question tho. I want to skin my tarp in snake skins. What would be a good way of dealling with where to bunch them up?

New at this so please be nice ;-)

I use snake skins and figure 9's. The 9's are attached about 6" from the end of the tarp, the skins can bunch in that space. Works fine for me.

Thanks, that's what I had figured on doing. Just saw this thread and decided to go ahead and ask.

I was wondering how long a line most folks carry for a tarp ridgeline.

25 to 30' for single ridge lines and about 12' for double lines. Mine is 30' and I use prussic's so I adjust the tarp back and forth as needed. Lengths aren't set in stone - if trees where you hang are closer together, then you can use shorter lines. I like a longer line as the trees where I'm at are farther apart.

I actually carry 50' for my tarp ridgeline. I only set up for a single ridgeline at present. I know this isn't the most gram-conscience practice, but I like having the extra cordage for anything that may arise. I also have "issues" cutting line if it isn't a super-necessity. I gues this is my Grandfather's thrifty influence he had left over from raising a large family through the Depression. He made everything "multi-purpose."

Wow ... lot's to consider. I was test hanging my ENO ProFly this weekend and noticed the tree strap and tarp line "bumping" into each other. I moved the tarp line above the tree strap since I was just looking over the gear, but remembered that was a "no-no". While swinging I kept trying to see how I could remedy this. The "V Method" looks promising. I don't know if I have enough cordage currently attached to the end, but that is easily remedied. I knew HF would provide me with the answer I was needing. Great thread! -ck

The tarp isn't (very) weighted like the hammock. The hammock needs to have tree straps, many people feel that it isn't damaging to the tree to tie off the tarp off the huggers- either above for more height or below the huggers for a good storm mode.
my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
    Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)
(see my profile for detailed weights)

    Great info

I currently use a full length ridge line with a Dutch hook and Dutch tarp fly, but I will be using the prusik method the next time I hang. Thanks!
