    Tree Huggers to short?

There has been a bit of talk the past week or two about extending your tree huggers with a bit of rope should you run into a situation where you just can't quite reach. So to make a bit cleaner and easily color coded to the lengths you would like to have on hand I have a new cure.

    The

    Suspension Extensions

A quick and simple bit of amsteel line spliced with fixed eyes at each end that can give you a bit more reach when you need. Pick different colors to give you instant recognition of the lengths, 5 footers in blue, 8 in red, or any combination you would like. At only about 2 grams per foot you can have several options at your disposal for well under an ounce.

Why not just thread your suspension through one of the eyes on your tree hugger and then connect the suspension to your other end of the tree hugger with a hich or marlin spike. Why do we need to add more to the system? Just use he extra suspension line to make up the difference.

That works if you have the length to do that, but there are times when all you have is bigger trees and more distance. Not all trees are created equal. But your results may vary.

On their own NO! This line would bight into the tree and cause the damage that we all want to avoid. If you were to try some of the things that are discussed in the rope tree huggers thread like sticks placed around to distribute the load over a bigger area, then it may be OK. But I would not endorse the use of them as huggers without some sort of greater protection for the tree.

I'll need a caddy to tell me which color I should use.
