    OES micro

I'm looking for an ultralight solo tarp. I saw the OES micro and thought it could be the one. However, I've heard a lot of complaints from people who have used HH sized tarps and was wondering if anyone has used this tarp and what kind of coverage it offers. I wasn't able to find any reviews online. Thanks!

Most complaints about the HH tarp is that its not big enough for allot of folks so they move to a larger tarp like the OES MacCat Deluxe or Warbonnet Hex or JRB 8x8 etc. The thing about small tarps is the minimal coverage which is enough for some but most folks want a bit more coverage to sit under, cook under, hang stuff etc and also be able to handle rough weather a bit better . The OES MacCat deluxe is a pretty ideal size for three season.

The HH stock tarp does what it is required to do. It keeps you dry inside the hammock when it is pitched properly. Pitching it properly has a learning curve that can be fairly steep. That said.. the same statement can be made about any minimal tarp. If weight is your biggest priority then the minimalist design is the way to go. Those of us who like to emphasize real estate like a bigger tarp for the generous and flexible coverage. The reputation of OES is such that I would not hesitate to purchase any product from Brian if that is what I knew I wanted. I tend to prefer real estate myself. So the micro is not something I would be drawn to. But I am sure it is a very fine and very serviceable tarp, once the learning curve for pitching it is mastered.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Heres a picture of my Spinn Maccat Standard with my Traveler. I bought this for a summer tarp, I really couldn't imagine using something much smaller. Unless I knew for sure there was NO chance of rain...

Thanks for the help. A lot of good points. My biggest worry is that a tarp that small would only be able to stop completely vertical rain. Honestly, the 2-3 ounces probably isn't worth it.

If you can afford it a bigger tarp in Spin will save you weight and have more coverage.

Being only 8.2oz, I haven't given much consideration to going any smaller than the OES Standard (Spinn). It gives me all the coverage I will ever need. Although I have it opened way up in this photo (while I relax in the WB Traveler), those who were there on the New Hampshire hang last Halloween will remember the horizontal rain that evening. I stayed perfectly dry.
