Starting at Mt. Tabor Rd. in Danby, VT you hike 2 miles north on the AT/LT to Little Rock Pond. One of the larger bodies of water on the LT. A beautiful spot that is way too crowded on summer weekends to enjoy but an early season trip on a weekday and you have it all to yourself!
On the way in a beaver has decided to make a dam right on the trail. The AT/LT is on the left side of the pic.....
If you have never seen the Long Trail this is what it looks like for the most part. If you aren't stepping on a rock you are stepping over one or around one. Tough on shoes....
On to the pond for a bit of a sandwich and a swim for my faithful companion Bongo. Water temp is 42, she loved it. I decided to stay dry instead.
At the north end of the pond you can leave the AT/LT and take a blue blaze trail to the summit of Green Mountain and this trail ends only .10 miles away from where the car is parked.
There is something magical to me about hiking in conifer forests. I always expect to see a leprechaun...
At the summit. I live in the valley on the far right....
And back to the car. Me and my Arrow.....
