All you camo nuts out there

Thought I would let you all know, I sent an email to the director of special sales at Duro (Multicam). I basically pleaded my case for the demand for a lighter weight Multicam nylon & silnylon in the camping market. I'll let you know if I get a reply.

Sounds good, hope you can work something out. Did you mention HF and some of the other hiking/camper sites as a means of giving an example of a ready and waiting market of D.I.Y.'s wanting to buy?

You could also send them a link to this thread. I have a few ideas for some coated 30D. FR IR compliant material.

Unfortunately... that's usually the case. Many large gear companies have their own fabric made - and as long as you order or commit to a monstrous volume of it, they can make just about anything. Camo sil... I'd have it for sale if I could swing the 30k+ to have it made special.

Well I thought it couldn't hurt to ask. But this is what I sent and this is what they said. Anyone for a group buy?

    Hi Ben,
I wanted to take the time to let you know that there is a relatively small but dedicated market for Multicam in 1.7 and 1.1 nylon and silnylon in the camping & hiking world. I'm a member of several hiking and camping online forums
( www.hammockforums.net/)and each have a section devoted entirely for DIY (do-it-yourself) projects, for members that make their own gear out of nylon and silnylon, mostly in woodland camo. There is a lot of talk recently about members searching for Multicam in lighter weight nylons. Even manufactuers of gear are looking. I myself am in the middle of making a Multicam 7.5 x 10 tarp. People love Multicam and want to use it.

Also, due to an article in Backpacker Magazine documenting studies finding that bears are attracted to non-natural colors ( red, blue, yellow, etc) and will actually go and check out the odd object in their territory. Outdoorists are replacing their gear with OD green, coyote brown, and woodland camo in fear of bear encounters. I tried to keep this email short and to the point, but basicly I'm asking if there is a chance if Multicam will be avialible in lighter weight nylon and silnylon for the camping & hiking world.

    Thank you,
    -Jim

    This is what they said:

All we currently have is 70D, I could make a 30D Sil coated with a 5000yd commitment.

I like that. Short, and to the point. (Unlike my emails...)

Anyone got 25-35k sitting around who wants to turn it into a few rolls of fabric?

I wonder how much we could really sell. Hf alone could never do 5000.
