    what type of thread?

    Is there a special type of thread I should be using for a tarp?

    I use the Gutermann Thread for everything.

    I have heard good things about the Thru-hiker thread which sounds like it might be better since its Hydrophobic.

    Since you are poking holes in the tarp every time the needle goes through you are creating potential leak sites with every stab. That's why you seam seal the tarp in the first place. 100% polyester thread is primary concern to avoid the rotting of the thread. Beyond that, high quality thread is a key issue. Brand is not real important except as it is linked to quality. Guttermans is a well respected brand. Don't worry about the water absorbency of the thread. You're going to seam seal critical seams anyway.

    It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
