    thinking about a modification...

i see now that i have a swen hem that bunches up with a cord and that is tied on to an s type hook.

has anyone ever just pulled a 1" web strap through the sewn hem and totally did away with s hooks/rope/caribiner etc and just had 10 ft sections of webbing at each end to attach to anything they wanted to?

im thinking that this woould be great and not have a worry of loosing any s hooks or having my s hooks chew up my bug net in my stuff sack.

    any thoughts?

Yes, that would work. I made a custom suspension that basically did the same thing. Biner for tree attachment and a cinch buckle for adjustments.

...i was thinking even simpler yet, by just wraping the web strap twice around the tree and then just use an overhand knot with 2 half hitches back to back...thassit.
    or will this not work????

You may loose some degree of adjustability, with just using straps..Most folks do a combo of rope and strap. Or a buckle on the webbing to adjust, Warbonnet Guy does this on his hammocks.

    But, yep, it will work.

I had an issue with those s-hooks, bent and smacked me in the noggin', so word of advice..get rid of them. If I recall correctly, those s-hooks were on recall a year ago, but I threw mine away before I saw the recall.

Claytor uses a variation of that, as does Speer. I believe both sites discuss their methodology in detail.

Be sure to use polyester webbing...nylon will strrrrrrrrrrretch.

I had a Crazy Crib with suspension like that. It worked ok. There are some pics on my Trip Reports page from the 05-06 timeframe...check the Little Sur trips.
