    Bug Net Color

Would you rather have black or white bug netting? And why?

Black is the least visible colour. It's easier to see through rather than see. I don't want to look at my bug net, I went to look through it.

I’ve had grey. Didn’t notice much difference between it and black on other hammocks. Not sure I’d want white on any camping gear actually.

    What Baka said.

    In addition I'll add this.
I have a bunch of shear drapes left over from Windows.
They are fine no seeum size but white.
The benefits of white is that I have the option of dying it any color(s) that I want. I'm going to do a good dark contrasting camo that should break up the outline for stealth. Why? If you camp near civilisation, sometimes you have drunks party away from town and approach campers.....thats IF they see you.
That happens far more often than most think.

So, the cost of RIT dye will give you options other than black and white If that's what you want.

I have a camo mesh screening for the hunting blind. Hate the stuff as you cannot see clearly out of it. The camo effect works both directions. But I am hiding from more intelligent animals than drunks.

For what it's worth, synthetic fabrics take RIT dye very poorly. I tried RIT DyeMore for Synthetics on some white nylon. My "royal purple" hammock is only a very pale lavender (and that was with double the soak time!)

I'm not necessarily trying to dissuade you from trying, but your expectations should be kinda low...

Thanks for the inputs. I need to get some netting for one thing, and am hoping to repurpose it camping related afterwards, so this helps steer me in the most useful direction. Unfortunately I've also noticed that Joann's fabrics, which had all kids of no-see-um and mosquito netting online a month ago, now has only white mosquito available.

I agree. But In my very limited experiences I've tried a couple of tips that have helped a lot. On thing is high temperature (near boiling). Then Ive found that many fabrics have finishes that won't take dyes. Ive corresponded with RSBTR on some white fabrics that I wanted custom dyed and many of theirs have these coatings and wont work. I've tried some local shops that worked well. I cant say how shear net will work in his case. I'd do a small sample first and see. If its resistant, try solvents like vinegar with heat then wash first before application. At a local fabric store you can usually buy a foot just to test. No shipping or minimum. Although it might be hard to find that 0.5 oz/yd noseeum.

I've only used black but I had a cheap mosquito net/hat with a light green netting for gardening in black-fly season. It was impossible to see out of in bright sunlight.
