Yeah a road crossing at VA 603. It is 20 miles from Whitetop Mountain Rd. Although it is an immediate steep climb of 1500 feet over 3 miles.

Other option is to go to Scales which is right after the big climb from 603 and go SOBO from there.

If we started Sunday a good plan would be

Short hike to Wise shelter Sunday afternoon 2 miles

Monday hike to Thomas Knob Shelter 6 miles

Tuesday would be a short 7 mile day to meet up with the group at Whitetop Mountain. 6miles

Wed Lost Mountain Shelter 6 miles

Thurs going to attempt to push on to Feathercamp Ridge depending on weather may stay with the group and stop at Saunders 12 miles/6 miles

Either a early morning short or long hike into Damascus Friday. 5 miles/9 miles

    Shuttle is $30 from MRO.

on a side note... Anyone know the bug conditions for the Damascus area for trail days? Bug net hammock mandatory? Can I get away with an open hammock??

WrongTurn's comment on camping in swamp doesn't sound good. I've been told by others to be prepared for bugs.

Didn't say I knew how to get from point to point, just where those points are.

Hmmm... I like the daily miles. And it gives room for going the extra distance. We don't have to camp at the shelters....

Let me know what you want to do. We'll need to set up a shuttle by the middle of the week. Also starting on Sunday for me depends on whether or not my TQ from Stormcrow gets here by this Friday. If it doesn't come before the hike I won't be able to go.
