No Zipper Mod For a Blackbird

I absolutely love my BB. I like both the shelf and the footbox. However, I was informed that because of the shelf and footbox, the recent 2Q&ZQ zipper mod #4 can not be accomplished on a BB. After acquiring my Switchback, I have really started enjoying the ability to open both sides and lay perpendicular for lounging in camp. Not being a DIYer yet, I wonder if anyone has any ideas of how to add a zipper to the other side for rolling up or removing the netting? Maybe Brandon will have an idea.

That would be tough not so much because of the foot box, but because of the shelf. I guess if you went to the seam that is under the shelf and footbox you could add a zipper there. I would just buy a traveler though.

Surely someone would be willing to give this mod a shot just to see what happens? That's the in the spirit of mods, isn't it?

...Also it would be real hard to make the mod 4 because way Brandon gathers his ends with bugnet and all. It would be easy to out in a zipper to adjust you UQ though or reach out on the right side and grap something.

The shelf/footbox side of hammock is structural? Therefore, the zipper would be under great stress.

Wouldn't that mean that the netting would also be structural? Just thinking out loud and trying to go by memory, since it is not in front of me. I don't recall there being any stress on the netting.

i think a full length zipper could be installed below the shelf/footbox seam, it would be very similar to the full length zipper on the entry side. that would open the hammock like a switchback i guess.

another possible option would be to put a zipper all the way around the peremiter of the net, it would be like "mod 4". the shelf/footbox would stay on, the net would come off, and the entry zipper would remain unchanged. neither seem easy, and would likely be more diufficult than the hh mod, the whipping would have to be taken apart at least for one of those.

    it seems possible though
