i just received my big mamabajamba tarp from warbonnet and was wondering about the ridgeline. do i need to use on long line across the entire tarp or just 2 short ones from the corners to the trees? i know it is probably a stupid question, but i've never used one before and just wanted to be sure. thanks.

You can do the tarp either way. Look thru the photo gallery for good suggestions/ideas. Opies website has some good pics of his single line suspension, (pics might be in his gallery too?).

Easiest way, since your just starting,
A. Come visit me, and I'll help you set it up.
B. Tie a l0 foot chunk of line to the ridge and string it to a pair of trees. Stake down the sides, or add 4-5 foot lines to the side tieouts, then stake them down.

Shug’s videos helped me a lot and I would highly recommend watching them all. In ether the 1st or second video, Shug demonstrates hanging the hammock and tarp.

I currently use a continuous ridgeline with toggles for my tarp.

But like others have said... there are lots of different ways to skin this cat...

But watch the videos... you'll learn a lot

Either or works just fine. Many people spent many nites under their tarp with a 2 line set-up. The single line affords you more possibilites as a multi purpose set-up. But either works just fine.

I believe there is one advantage for a full ridgeline... if you use prussiks to connect the tarp to the ridgeline, its easier to adjust the tarp to center it over your hammock. Otherwise with the two seperate lines, you have to undo one end, redo, adjust the other end... But like it has been mentioned, people have their preferences. Both work

You can use prusiks on a 2 line set-up, too.
