some one please compare the original MH kilt to this new model...
I'm just wondering how far out on the trail I'll need to go in order to avoid hikers in drag.
Forget Scotland, I'm waiting for a nice German fashion craze to hit the trails...

Years ago I was thinking about getting a kilt but my Grandpa warned me off them. He had to wear one until he was 12 years old (farm town in Illinois - mainly Scots around there) and said he would never have anything to do with one.
The problem in MN is the blackflies - it must take alot of DEET to operate in a kilt.
Yep, there are places and times of the year the kilt is less than preferred. In Scotland it's the midges that are the problem. That aside, there is still a majority of time and places where a kilt fills the bill very nicely.
A helpful hint with blackflies(most flies really), they track ammonia while mosquitoes track CO2... DEET will make CO2 tracking bugs all confused and drugged up but do nothing about the flies, you may want to try something with R-326(?) in it. I have some stuff from Sawyers that works wonders. The problem in MN is the blackflies - it must take alot of DEET to operate in a kilt.
As for kilts, I'm all for a cool breeze in the south. Lots of women like a guy in a kilt with a big red beard.

Aye, but the breeze and wimmen not withstandin, I'll be sticking with a pair o' breeks.
I want to get some of that Sawyers stuff with R-326, but can't find where it is sold. Cabelas and REI have Sawyers repellant but it is mosquitoe & tick-oriented. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I had picked up a couple bottles a few years ago from gander mountain and seeing your post I figured I'd find a link and get some more for myself. No such luck. I went to the sawyer site and it looks like they replaced it with Picaradin which might be worth a try other wise I'd check a tractor supply since it is used for livestock... may need thinned, I don't know.I want to get some of that Sawyers stuff with R-326, but can't find where it is sold.
