Very enlightening, thank you. I just could not figure out why several of my hammocks are very difficult for me to get out of. Now I know. I like my cheap little Green Hornet, I will be staying with it, I can always get out of it easily without cutting off circulation to my legs. Kind of pop in pop right on out. Nice and easy, comfortable, except I do not like the ridge line in it, but I like being able to get in and out easily.

    Ah, life's trade offs.

    DIY hammock tight edge Problem

Yes there are always trade-offs. I can't sit sideways with my legs hanging out for very long either or I get the same problem as you. I just like the tighter edges because they flap less and help keep thing from falling out.

There is a mod out there that is basically a piece of shock cord in the edges that may be the best of both. I might try this on the next hammock I make. Search for "notty mod".

This(all the above) is why I prefer the simple gathered end hammock with whoopies larksheaded at the gather: l can adjust it easily, any way I want.

Are you saying you don't whip the ends? Just rely on the larks head to hold the gather?

No whipping. The ends are gathered by a string through the end channel. Like this:www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15205

To tighten the edges, loosen the larkshead and pull some of the edge through and cinch the larkshead back down. It works for me, doesn't slip out. The only way a hammock made this way can have edges that are too tight is if the ends are cut on a curve, not straight and square. ( the hammock will be longer through the middle than through the outer edges )

Sometimes I pull one side really tight and it makes a nice lounge chair.

Another excellent piece of advice here on HammockForums.

    Thanks
