    Talking Greetings from newbie

Hey everyone, I've been lurking here for a while but finally registered a username and decided to post.

I have been backpacking for years with a tent but I have decided to try out a hammock and see how I like it. I've done my fair share of research on hammocks and asked questions at outdoors stores, but I'm not sure what I should do about a tarp. I know that is a very trivial question and there are a lot of existing threads on the topic so I will do some searching. Any advice would be appreciated, however

Thanks, and if you're ever in the southern states feel free to PM me and set up a trip.

    SignalToNoise,
welcome from lurkerdom. Glad to have you with us. As far as looking for a tarp, be sure to start here for a summary.

Lots of options for a tarp. Most use a silnylon tarp for lightness (though a regular ripstop tarp works well for a weight cost.) Winter or summer only? Do you like lots of coverage, or trying to save weight?

I live in Jackson. My usual hiking grounds are Alabama's Sipsey Wilderness and Talladega NF.

Concerning tarps, what specific tarps do y'all use? Those threads had good general information, but I'm looking for recommendations. I normally hike in the southeast in hot, humid weather. Right now I'm looking for a lightweight tarp even if it offers less coverage. Thanks for the help!

I have a Clark XL tarp and a Backwoods Daydreamer Winter Dream tarp. The XL tarp came with the NX-200 hammock and does ok for keeping things dry but thats about it. I use the BWDD as my all around tarp. It can serve in all 4 seasons and has great move around under room. Scott is getting a new house going so he is not making any tarps right now. I have heard great things about the MACCat tarps from OES, I will have one someday!!! Next time your in the TNF look me up I am not far from there and looking to do some exploring.
