    Cool

What you tie on doesn't need to be absorbent. All it's doing is diverting the water to drip down instead of following your suspension line into the hammock. Due to gravity and surface tension of water nearly anything you tie on will cause the water to drip down. You can use a piece of kite string with a 1" tail and the water will flow that way.

To a point ... volume can over come surface tension ... just saying

Right but there is only a limited amount of volume that will travel down the rope.

I haven't been paying attention, are those who's hammocks have gotten wet using larger diameter ropes?

    How about ring(S)

Does anyone know of a source for smaller rings? I would like to use 2 aluminum or titanium rings as fastener, adjustment, and drip-ring all in one. I'm thinking smaller than the Rappel rings being used now, possibly 1/2" . Preferably continous rings rather than welded. That would allow me to use thin 3/8 webbing (spectra or nylon) & just run it through the rings & back through one of them like a belt. finish with a quick half-hitch on a bight to guard against slippage.

I have some 1/2" stainless steel rings that I've played with for tarp suspension. They aren't strong enough to hang on, however.

Well, if you have the money and really want Ti, Annap[olis Performance Sailing has Ti rings here - just scroll down about half-way. Larger than what you wanted though.

Ok just a thought but you know how a continious loop of amsteel is used to attach the ring to the hammock then attaching the woopie to the ring. Instead of a ring couldent you just use another continious loop of amsteel and the loops knots would stop drippage. If you can change out the ring for continious loops you can choose what size loops you use. Ok I know this ideah probally sounds confusing but its not always easy describing these things in words
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Something like that in a smaller (1/2" ID) ring would be perfect. aluminum or titanium 400-500 lbs capacity.

Well McMaster-Carr has Ti tubes. You could get the shortest length, and cut and dress the ends to get the rings whatever length you want. They wouldn't be load rated, but for rain stoppers that wouldn't be needed anyway.

At $51.70 for 12"x0.50"ODx0.448"ID, you could probably get at least 24 or so rings out of that.

I used the stock DD webbing for a while, (then Slap-Straps, now whoopies), wasn't really a big problem as the hammock bottom is waterproof.... water might get to the channel but it didn't really get in to speak of.
