    back yard hanging questions...

    Hey all
as with most of us here we (i) test gear at home in the yard before going out for real. i do this alot aswell .ive been straping my hammocks to a tree and a fence post .and seems to work very well ,UNTILL i got my new wbbb .i can get my webbing as high as i want on the tree but im pretty limited on the fence post its 6ft tall . my first hang in the bb left me about 2in from the ground.sure i could have tightened it up a bit but the RL would have been very taut. i didnt want that.. im also expecting a crowsnest if i left the hang the uq would be on the ground. i dont want that.. SO im thinking of a new post a taller one . concreted in .my fence post are 8ft and 2ft burried so their 6ft tall . im thinking a 10ft or 12ft post maybe a 6x6 .. but how deep should i burry and concrete . would be close to the fence as not to look too out of place. i thought about a stand but i really dont need a portable stand at the moment . anyone else done something like this? i guess im just asking .what size and how deep i should go to hold me weight?
    im 180 ish
    thanks all..

If you just want a couple places to hook up your hammock, and not have it related to the fence, you can do what Opie did- put a couple metal posts in the ground with concrete and eye bolts on the top. Click on Whoopieslings.com and you can see his pics. Will be easier than dealing with wood.

Mine arent set in crete, though.

I pounded a 3' sleeve in pulling it out as I went to clear out the hole. The sleeve allows me to remove the poles as needed.

Works well.. Im 275# so I back mine up with guy lines... They do bow in quite a bit so Id suggest guying them out regardless of your weight.

    Yep.

And for my anchor points I use Dog tie outs. The system is the same... There is a sleeve pounded in the ground and then a second stake goes into it with a ring on it.

I started a thread about this a month or so ago. I finally got around to getting it done I concreted a 2' piece of pipe as a sleeve, and my upright is removable. I'm also going to use the dog stake guyouts ala Opie Its gonna be NICE to be able to start playing, I mean testing here at home

I took the easy way out. Did a monster DIY and built an extra roofed area round half my house. Made sure that the uprights were heavy duty steel. Then horrified my wife when I drilled two big holes straight through two of them and installed Stainless Steel eye bolts!

I love it, kids love it, she accepts it. 2 outta 3 is good enuff for me!
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives.
