Dutch, this is great!
You accomplished two things. First that the nine can hold a lot of weight.
Second, the WBG hitch is also satisfactory. I also noticed there wasn't a half hitch in there. Is that true?

Scott it is true that it was purely WBG's hitch. I used coated nylon rope from REI and I think the outer wrapping really catches. I would use caution if the line was real slippy like coreplus from BPL. Having a wedgeshape on the nonload side really helps. It was hard to remove it and was what finally started to cut into the line. I'm still waiting for the vectrux rope with the 2000 pound test. I just wanna break something.

I can't believe this thread is still going, but it is definitely the place for rigging innovation.

I happened across this novelty item in a climbing store. It is intended as a bottle opener and has no load rating, but I rigged it up and it did a fine job.



The only drawback was the difficulty of tensioning it while locked.

The next was schrochem's truly excellent three-holed quicklink. It is a little lighter at 0.1 - 0.2 oz and is my new preferred tensioning system. I can get a higher tension than other methods with this. Having rounded the holes, I can put 50-100 lbs pretension on then bounce on it with no slippage.



My previous system with the pulley and v-cleat allows a little more tension and less line wear, but the difference is marginal.

I think there were a few ways.....

Your triangle looks like it is stainless steel, which seems like a good idea since it is so small it still won't weigh much. Is that homemade or did you find it somewhere.

I tried it last weekend. I was on my butt in 2 seconds flat. One more turn
around the rings was enough to hold.... but it was sketchy still.

(This is speaking strictly for 1/8" dia Spectra 12 strand as in stock HHULBA)

You could definitely make it suffice... but at the cost of quick adjustability.

Let us know if you come up with any insights though. It would be one heck
of a light and easy system if it could hold.

I bought an excellent brother 5060 but had trouble with sewing coated 30D polyester ...

On the three holed triangle, how are you rigging it?
I think there were a few ways.....

Bowline with a bight on the last tie at the top (tree side).

Up the load hole, across and down over the edge, then up through the lock hole and tucked under the line between the load and locking holes.

Also, any details on size and thickness?

It's a triangle about an inch and a half on each side. The holes are about .3" diameter and it's about an 3/16 thick.

It weighs next to nothing. It's sometimes a challenge to find in your pockets.

I tried this last night late, just before I went to bed. First thing I found was you have to bind the rings together quite a bit, more than just a loop or larkshead. What I used was more like a prusik (a larkshead type loop knot but with about 4-5 turns around the rings first...

Even like that it doesn't work with bare spectra, especially the 12 strand hollow core stuff. Its too slippery and squishes too flat. It'd probably work with a back-up half hitch on a bight. I didn't try it though...

BUT with covered core ropes (probably even spectra core - I just don't happen to have any handy) around 4mm size it works just fine. I made a loop in Mammut 4mm static cord then "adjusted" it up about a foot off the ground and stood in it. Even bounced. The suspending rope stretched quite a bit but the line didn't slip even a little no back up hitch or anything.

I'm convinced its feasible with the stiffer ropes with a more round structure and a less slippery surface than spectra. At least enough to give it a trial run with the hammock. Maybe tonight if I can get the time.

The link above discusses this. I found that you need a half hitch as a stopper knot and it will work fine.
