    Tarp carry options ...

Just made my first tarp ... OK almost have my first tarp finished ... "The Black Hawk"

Anyway it got me to thinking about the option of storage during carry. How do most folks do it. I've always carried mine in snake skins for the easy of stringing it up and having it ready to deploy. But lately have been thinking of making a mesh or sil Black Bishop type bag ...

    So what's you're favorite?

OK OK ... as soon as I get the tie outs and stuff finished I'll string it up in the back yard.

I sewed a small DWR nylon bag, put a cordlock on it and I put my Clark tarp inside. The trick I use is when I'm taking my tarp down... I always start at the head end and I roll it up, gathering up the guylines as I roll. This keeps all my guylines from tangling up too (there's 6 of them on my tarp). When I get to the foot in, I stuff the roll into the stuff sack, then push the ending rope inside. I always know then that when I go to set it back up, I'll start with the foot end of the tarp. Clip the foot end to the tree strap, unroll tarp to the head end and clip it to the other tree. I've also changed out my ropes that go to the trees, I've put whoopies on my tarp and I've color coded them. Red on one end, silver on the other. They match my hammock whoopies. My tree straps will also go into the tarp bag.

I usually don't use anything...I just stuff it into the outer mesh pocket of my pack, which keeps it under control enough that I don't need a bag for it. My rain jacket goes on top of that, and if it's cold or I'm expecting heavy rain my rain pants go back there, too.

Right now it has skins on it, though. Benefit there is that I can hang the ridgeline but not deploy it until I start feeling drops.

MY ONLY complaint of the Snake Skins is the bulk factor. I do like the option to have it strung but not deployed till necessary ... but kinda thinking about going to a Black Bishop type set up. On my new one I'm going to go with an overhead full ridgeline with prussiks. Not sure yet though.
