    First DIY project ever....

Pretty happy with my DIY Climashield Apex 6 UQ made from the "Make Your Gear" kit. I have never sewn before so it took me a few more hours than they estimate, but it came out great. Only got to upper 40's today, but I was toasty warm in my Blackbird XLC. blackbird xlc.jpgDIY Underquilt.jpg

Very nice. If you can nail an underquilt first try diy you are well on your way. Beware though once you start down the diy side you can get lost easily. Sure is fun though.

Congrats. That is quite a feat, especially for your first go. Keep it up.

Kev isn't kidding on both counts! I haven't tried anything as complex as an underquilt but I think I've been placing weekly orders with Dutch and Kyle going on seven weeks now! Better to take your time and come out with that great underquilt than rush it.

Taking your time is the ticket. The sewing gods seem to punish those who are rushed.

I think if thats the case my winter tarp found religion... That's the last time I will push through sewing while overtired. You know, things like putting the tie-outs on the wrong side of one piece which naturally led to sewing the two halves together facing the same direction... Doh! But hey, it works and that's what counts, right?

Be awake, be patient, and have fun!

I am the type of person who always seems to need to learn things the hard way.

The good thing is that if you get up from a project and walk away, it will just be their waiting for you for when you are fresh.
