Well, I just ordered my first hammock!!!

I just put in my order for my first hammock, the Hennessy Hammock. I am 34 years old in a month, and have been a ground dweller my whole life. I have been considering a hammock system for some time now, and after a recent trip on the SHT, I realized how much I wanted one when it was time to get up off the ground in the morning!!

I chose the Hennessy because the great, great reviews I have read and watched about it. I also live in the "northland" and the Hennessy offers a sewn bug net, and most others are zippered or Velcro. I also like the idea of being able to sleep flat at night, or even on my side at times, so this just seemed like the right choice!

Found the Hennessy Expedition A-Sym for 120.00 new on eBay. Got a 3 day trip coming up on the SHT at the beginning of June, and I can't wait to test the thing out!!

    Shane:
Welcome to HF and congratulations on the HH purchase. have fun testing and getting to know the workings of the hammock. Check out 2QZQ's section and webpage for modifications to the HH. They do wonderful work, from what I have read, that will allow you to top load your HH.

Hi Shane! Welcome to the forum. I have HH's and you'll enjoy it. Really beats sleeping on the ground. There is alot of info here to soup up the stock design to customize your hammock if you feel the need. A lot of us here change out the suspension to make hanging it easier so you don't have to tie knots or make adjustsments easier. Good luck and have fun hanging.

Don't take your hammock out into the field for three days without getting a good feel for how to set it up. You are also going to need some kind of under insulation. There are a myriad of threads which deal with the options and choices available to you. Research that out while you are waiting for you hammock to arrive. There is a learning curve to hammocks. Don't head out totally unprepared cause the liklihood of having a miserable time increases incrementally to you lack of preparation.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Welcome to HF Shane!!!!!
I was the same as you been camping all my life and always been a grounder then I got me a HH and I thought the same as you when I got my HH about the bottom entry, and I thought long and hard about the 2QZQ zipper mod, well I got it done (had them sew the bottom entrance as well) and since then I haven't missed the bottom entry not one time! Not to try and steer you either way, but don't discount the top entry, I did and now I'm "LOVIN" it! My girlfriend has a HH and tried mine out and now she wants the 2QZQ mod done as well! But no matter what glad you have a hammock, and welcome to the high life!

Welcome Shane. Lots of folks do the SHT around here and there will probably be a group hang there in the not too distant future. Enjoy your new hammock.

Bug protection is issue number 1 for us up here. Bringing ear plugs to drown out the noise of the bugs trying to eat you alive is number 2. Actually being able to sleep ranks about 4 or 5

I thought that listening to all the bugs on the outside of the bug net was one of the joys of sleeping in the woods.
