Are you a dead sleeper or a restless sleeper?

Im a very restless sleeper. I have trouble keeping my legs from falling out of my hammock at night. My Peapod has helped rein me in with my DIY Speer type hammock in the winter, and my netted HH helps in the summer. I did tear the netting once in the HH so I gotta be half conscience I dont tear it up again in my sleep. I got a buddy who doesnt move all night in his hammock. Ive been thinking I may need to entertain Jack (Daniels) or Jim (Beam) before bedtime, but I dont really want to go that route. I might miss hearing Bigfoot or something.
Anyone out there sympathize with my dilemma?

If I am uncomfortable or too cold I will be restless. But, I can't say that I can sympathize. Are you restless at home in bed? If not, then it must be the hammock. I hope that is reason enough to get another hammock...

Nope I am a rock, does not matter if I am in my hammock or bed I am out until something makes me wake up. You may try a light dose of Tylenol PM, NyQuil or the like for a lesser knock out than the JD/JB.

I think the one place I'm not a restless sleeper is in one of my hammocks.

Yep I sleep straight through, I think it's all the fresh air.

If I wake up in the morning though I can't get back off for more then ten minutes at a time. I tend to wake with the sun so I usually end up being the first up in camp.

it depends on how tired I am.

Last friday night at the hot springs hang, I didn't sleep well at all. Woke up 4 or 5 times. Once to relieve myself. I need a dull but loud constant noise to sleep well. I wasn't close enough to the river.

Saturday night, though, I was so danged tired after the 6mi hike from tanyard gap that no noise, short of a nuclear explosion, was going to wake me up.

I sleep in the funeral home position with my arms crossed over me. Creeps a lot of people out. I sleep my 3.5- 4 hours without moving.

It is my understanding that alcohol actually interferes with the brain's ability to reach REM sleep. Though it is a sedative, it will cause restless sleep in the later stages of sleep. The old myth of a "night cap" is just an excuse to drink more. Tylenol PM contains Dextramethorephaine (sp?) (Benadryl) and knocks most folks out. Long term usage is not recommended however.

I too am restless, but not that restless. I sometimes push pads out over the edge, but nothing serious. Sorry to hear you can't sleep better.

Ever since I hit my 50s, my sleep has become horrible to say the least.
Most times I am awake every hour or 2 on the hour.. Actually that was the main reason I bought a hammock as a last ditch effort for rest..
The more I use mine the better it gets....There is hope....
